Armenian is an independent branch of the Indo-European language family, is Native to Armenia, where it is the official language. Armenian has its own writing system (the Armenian Alphabet) and is spoken by around 5 to 7 million people.
Eastern Armenian, a major dialect of the Armenian language, evolved in the region of Eastern Armenia, particularly in areas that are now part of modern-day Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. The development of Eastern Armenian can be traced back to the early Middle Ages when the Armenian language began to diverge into different dialects due to geographical, political, and cultural influences. This dialect became more distinct after the 16th century, when the influence of Persian, Russian, and Turkish languages began to shape the vocabulary and syntax. The use of the Eastern dialect grew, particularly in the regions under Persian and Russian control, and it became the dominant form of the language in the Eastern Armenian diaspora.
The standardization of Eastern Armenian began in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily through the work of intellectuals and writers who sought to unify the dialects and create a standardized literary form. The adoption of Eastern Armenian as the official language of the Republic of Armenia in the early 20th century further solidified its status. Over time, Eastern Armenian has been influenced by modern global languages and has developed a distinct identity, with variations in pronunciation and vocabulary. Despite the spread of Western Armenian, Eastern Armenian remains the more widely spoken dialect, particularly in Armenia and surrounding regions.

Years before the authorized translations were published, Gasprint (AKA Media New) published an unauthorized translation of Philosopher's Stone into tangible book form; books 2-7 were also published, but only digitally. That this translation was unauthorized was unknown for quite some time by the larger translation collectorship. Then in 2016, Zangak published the first authorized edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone using Kazu Kibuishi cover art. Book 5 has now been released as of 2025. L. Mkrtcyan translated the unauthorized books.

Zangak is the publisher of the authorized Armenian Potter books. They're only available in hardcover and thus far only one translator for all 5 books - Alvard Jivanyan. The first editions were published with the Kazu Kibuishi cover art; however, it looks like Zangak has released book 1 in the Jonny Duddle cover as well now (ISBN: 9789939990156).

Zangak also has published 2 of the 3 "Hogwarts School Books" - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them (2019) and Quidditch Through the Ages (2021). Both books feature the 2017 art by Jonny Duddle, which was first found on the Bloomsbury UK school books. I'm hoping they will complete this set and release Tales of Beedle the Bard.
