The Serbian language belongs to the South Slavic group of the Indo-European language family. Its roots trace back to the Old Church Slavonic language, which was used in the medieval period by Slavic peoples in the Balkans. Serbian developed alongside Croatian, Bosnian, and Montenegrin as part of the Serbo-Croatian dialect continuum. Over time, these dialects began to diverge due to political and cultural influences, particularly during the Ottoman Empire's rule and later Yugoslav history. Serbian itself has two main dialects: the Shtokavian and the Torlakian, with Shtokavian being the basis for the standard Serbian language.
During the 19th century, a movement for a unified Serbian literary language emerged, influenced by nationalistic ideals and a desire to separate from the Ottoman Empire and Hungarian rule. The standardization of Serbian was heavily shaped by linguist Vuk Karadžić, who reformed the language by simplifying its spelling system and promoting phonetic writing, making it more accessible to the people. Following the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s, Serbia, as an independent state, continued to promote Serbian as its official language, which is written in both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets. Today, Serbian remains a vital cultural and political force in the Balkans.

Hari Poter i zatvorenik iz Askabana
As the Serbian language is written in both Cyrillic and Latin alphabets, the Potter books are available in both as well, with Latin (pictured here) being more common.

In 2000, Alfa - Narodna Knjiga began publishing the first 3 Potter books in the Latin alphabet. But, for whatever reason, the books were withdrawn from sale.
The translators for the are Draško Roganović & Vesna Stamenković Roganović (books 1 - 7) and Ana Vukomanović (book 2). The text blocks stay the same even though alphabets and publishers do not.

Хари Потер и Дворана тајни

Narodna Knjiga also published the 1st 2 Potter books in Cyrillic alongside the Latin books. There are "Pre-Movie" books (books w/ "Harry Potter" script that doesn't match the iconic Franchise Potter font that is on most of the books) - the books here on this page are both Pre-Movie font.

This hardcover edition was published as well by Alfa – Narodna Knjiga in 2004. Only books 1 - 5 were published in this edition. Book 5 is in 2 volumes, so make sure to have both to have a complete book. The books in this edition are not as common and seem to be in a bit higher demand because of the interesting covers. This edition is commonly referred to as the "Lemony Snicket Covers" or similar due to their likeness to the Series of Unfortunate Events books. There is a book 6 in the Cyrillic alphabet, but it has the Mary GrandPre cover art.

Evro Giunti picked up publishing the Potter books - this time only in the Latin alphabet; soft and hardcover books were available by this publisher. I really like the tall hardcovers and wanted to complete this set. However, there was a publisher change!

From Potterglot's article about this publisher switch-up, Evro Giunti then changed to Evro book and was still publishing under that until 2019; however in 2022, the publishing house dissolved and a new publisher, Čarobna Knjiga, took over and republished everything with Jonny Duddle art. They have also published the Hogwarts School books among other auxiliary Potter books. The Jim Kay illustrated books were published as well in Serbian; however, the books look to be out of print at this time as I don't see them on the publisher's page. I also don't see the MinaLima books available in Serbian as well Evro Book and Čarobna Knjiga both published the Jim Kay illustrated book 4. I haven't seen the illustrated book 5 - but if you know differently, let me know.
