The Chinese writing system dates back to the Shang dynasty (1250 - 1050 BCE); however, research suggests that character creation dates back even further. And over (a lot of!) time, Chinese characters were standardized during the Qin dynasty (221 - 206 BCE).
Traditional Chinese characters are a set of Chinese character forms used to write Chinese languages, and was the main writing system in use quite a long time. However, in the mid-20th century, certain countries began creating and standardizing simplified sets of Chinese characters. Simplified Chinese is now found in Mainland China, Malaysia, and Singapore, while Traditional Chinese is still in use in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and other (usually) overseas Chinese communities.
The Traditional Chinese Harry Potter books read right to left and are published in Taiwan by Crown. These translations are quite different from their Mainland China Simplified Chinese counterparts; they also have different translators and publishers than the Simplified Chinese translations as well. So, if you're wanting to collect a complete set of Harry Potter translations, you cannot just have one or the other Chinese translations, but both Simplified and Traditional translations.

The first edition of the Traditional Chinese Potter translations were published in softcover and feature the Mary GrandPre cover art. The books are still fairly easily found, even within the US on e-commerce sites. Importantly, if you're wanting to collect all 7 books, you must know that books 5 and 7 come in 2 volumes per book - so if you only have 1 volume of books 5 and 7, you only have 1/2 of a book.
The first book also has a fold-out poster of GrandPre's cover art for the first book.

In 2017, Crown published another edition of the Potter books with only minor changes to the covers; same text block. This edition still features the Mary GrandPre cover art; however, instead of white spines (like you see in the first edition books), the artwork wraps around the spine. At this time, I only have the first book of this edition as there's not much difference between the 1st edition and this one. And, like with the edition of the first book, book 1 has a fold-out poster. This edition also has a wrap-around paper at the bottom (similar to the Japanese books).

In 2020, Crown published a new edition of books featuring the unique and absolutely magical art of of illustrators Loiza and Krenz. The covers each have a unique illustration and and all 7 of the spines together form a beautiful singular image. I knew the instant I saw that these books were coming out, that I had to have them. And my shelves are all the better and prettier after having obtained them.
